Research note from Harry Macy: There is an unidentified male born 1804-10 in the 1820 census of Evert^5 in Ohio. Evert^6 who went to Illinois may have had more sons. Absalom^6 of Pickaway Co., Ohio had a son 1804-10 not identified. (The wills of Elizabeth (Butler Co., OH 1822) and Robert (Darke Co., OH 1848) would probably help straighten out some other uncertainties. (submitted by Harry Macy, August 2000)

** Research and analysis by Dorothy Williams, communicated in several emails (Aug 2005) helped to correct a previous misconception that Anna^7 [Van Vickle] Dechert was the youngest daughter of Daniel^6 Van Vickle. It is clear now that she is the only daughter of Absalom and Elizabeth Van Vickle.

Absalom Vanvickle came from Virginia with his parents in 1806. They settled in Jackson Township. he served as a soldier in the war of 1812. In 1819 he married Elizabeth Duglar, by whom he had two children. He bought one hundred and twenty-five acres of land three miles west of Commercial Point, in 1832. This he cleared by his own labor. He died in 1863, at the age of 75. His wife died in 1873, aged 82. His daughter, Mrs. William Dechert, now owns the property.

1820 US Census for Scioto, Pickaway, OH lists Absalom (indexed as Abraham) Vanvickel in a household with one male 10 to 16 (Jeptha), one male 26 to 45 (Absalom), one female < 10 (Anna) and one female 16 to 26 (Elizabeth)

1830 US Census for Scioto, Pickaway, Ohio lists an Absalom Vanvickle, age 40 to 50 with a woman (presumably his wife) age 30 to 40 and one female, age 10 to 15.
